Homicide investigation launched in Johnsonville suburb

Police have launched a homicide investigation after the body of a 38-year-old woman was found at a Kentwood Drive address early this morning.

Emergency services and Police officers arrived at the address around 1.17am this morning after screaming was heard coming from the property but no contact could be made.

A search of the property located a 46-year-old male with injuries who has been taken to Wellington Hospital for medical treatment. He is currently under Police guard. Further searching of the property has found the victim who was deceased.

Police have the property under guard along with a vehicle found near the property. A forensic scene examination will begin this morning along with inquiries with neighbours and locals to see what they have seen or heard.

The name of the victim is unable to be released until family members can be advised.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Leitch says "It is the very early stages of our investigation and our inquiries over the day will help us understand what has happened overnight".

"I can confirm that the man and woman are known to each other".
