Homicide investigation launched

1 min read

Manawatü CIB have launched a homicide investigation after a body was located outside a block of units in a residential area in Palmerston North this morning.

Police attended the Taieri Court scene at around 7:30am after a member of the public discovered the body.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan of the Manawatu CIB says: "We are treating the death as suspicious and we have cordoned off an area outside the block of units so we can conduct a scene examination."

"There are a number of residential properties and buildings in the area where the victim was located and officers are continuing to speak with residents.

"There is a lot of information we don't have as this investigation is in its infancy. However a priority for police is to identify the victim and perform an area canvass in an effort to gather information and piece together what has occurred prior to the death."

ESR are supporting police with the scene examination which is expected to run into the next 24-48 hours.

Further updates will be issued once more information becomes available.
