At approximately 5.45pm yesterday evening (Tuesday, 14 April) a man presented at Taupo Police Station to report an incident at an address in Elizabeth Street, Taupo.
Police and ambulance attended the address where they located a 47-year-old woman deceased.
A homicide investigation is now underway. The house was secured overnight and will be subject to a scene examination by ESR this morning. A post mortem examination will be carried out to establish cause of death.
A 49-year-old man from Taupo will be appearing in the Rotorua District Court charged with murder.
No further details about the woman will be released until formal identification has been completed at the post mortem and next of kin have been advised.
As the matter is before the court there will be no further police comment.
