Police have today named the 41-year-old woman killed during an incident at Ongaroto near Atiamuri, north west of Taupo earlier this week. She was Queenie Selina THOMPSON.

A 44-year-old man has since been charged with murder and appeared in the Rotorua District Court today. He has been remanded in custody to appear on 11 May 2016 in the High Court at Rotorua.

“Our thoughts are with Queenie’s family following her tragic death and I can reassure the community that we are rigorously investigating the circumstances of her death,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Cranshaw of the Taupo Area CIB.
