Armed Police are responding to an incident in the Invercargill suburb of Otatara.
Emergency services received a report at 6.34pm that someone had been shot.
The Armed Offenders Squad and other Police staff responding to the incident are following strong lines of inquiry to locate the alleged offender, and to determine exactly what happened.
There is not believed to be any danger to the public at this time, however Police ask residents in the area to ensure their properties are secure.
The victim has been taken to hospital.
Police request the public to avoid the area if possible.
