Police attended an incident outside Lynn Mall, New Lynn, around 9.30pm last night where witnesses reported two males allegedly breaking into a vehicle.

Waitakere Area Manager Response, Senior Sergeant Matt Laurenson, says Police were doing proactive patrolling nearby and when Police arrived at the scene the two males split up and fled on foot.

“At one stage, one of the offenders allegedly charged at Police with a screwdriver in his hand. Subsequently one of our officers was required to deploy a taser and the man was then taken into custody,” says Senior Sergeant Laurenson.

The 20-year-old man has been charged with Behaves Threateningly, Possession of an Offensive Weapon and Unlawful Interference with a Motor Vehicle.

“Our inquiries are continuing to locate the second alleged offender. Our information on this person is very limited, however he is described as a male, wearing a black basketball type jumper or singlet, with the number 32 on the back.”

If anyone has information on this male, or last night’s incident, please contact Waitakere Police or you can provide information anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

As the matter is now before the Courts Police are unable to make any further comment.
