Just after 2pm today police were called to a child care facility in Takapuna. We can confirm that a three-year-old child has died following what appears to be a tragic accident.
Detective Sergeant Ross Clapp says early indications are that the child has died following an accident on playground equipment however police are still working to establish the full circumstances of what has occurred.
The child’s family has been advised and will be supported by police and Victim Support.
It is too early at this stage for police to comment on specifics of what has occurred.
WorkSafe New Zealand has been advised.
