Investigation continues into Darfield firearms incident

Attributable to Canterbury District Commander, Superintendent John Price:

he Police investigation into the firearms incident in Darfield on Sunday 25 November, where a man died following a family harm matter, is ongoing.

Bangor Road remains closed while the scene investigation continues.

A post mortem on the 56-year-old man who died in the incident was completed today. The results will not be released until the final post mortem report is received from the pathologist and this will take some time. 

The officer injured in the incident was operated on yesterday and is in good spirits. He was visited today by the Commissioner of Police and he is continuing to be supported by his family and colleagues.      

Police would like to thank the Darfield community for their ongoing support. We understand this has been a traumatic incident that has impacted many and we are committed to working together to support the community through this.

The tragic events of Sunday were an isolated incident and Police would like to reassure the community that we are committed to ensuring everyone in the community can be safe and feel safe.
