Kindness of a stranger helps reunite Lyttelton resident with lost cash

1 min read

One man’s honesty enabled Lyttelton Police to be the bearer of some very good news for someone this week.

While working in town at the weekend, the man found a wallet containing $1290 on the road and subsequently handed it in at Lyttelton Police Station.

Officers soon tracked down the wallet’s rightful owner, who was both shocked and very grateful to get the money back. He hadn’t reported its loss as he didn’t expect to see it again.

“We often hear about the bad things that go on, but this man’s compassion for the owner of the wallet is a good reminder that there are a lot of positives happening around us every day,” says Sergeant Dave Knowles.

“His honesty is to be commended and it’s a great sign that community spirit is still alive and well in Lyttelton.”
