Kumeu Van Crash update

Waitematä Police have released the names of the two people killed in a van crash in Kumeu early on Saturday morning.

 

They were Ashley Walsh (20yrs) and Tye Gibbs (19yrs), from Auckland.

 

Miss Walsh and Mr Gibbs were both passengers in the vehicle.

 

The driver of the van is still in hospital and will be spoken to by Police upon his release.

 

"Our investigation is ongoing and it will be several weeks before the exact cause of the crash is known" says Senior Constable Karl Bevin, Waitematä Serious Crash Unit.

 

"We'd like to hear from anyone who may have seen a white plumbing van on Friday night in the Kumeu area. We'd also like to hear from anyone who may have been with Mr Gibbs, Miss Walsh or the driver earlier in the evening."
