At approximately 6am this morning Napier Police responded to a crash just north of Bayview on Main North Road, Napier.

When officers arrived at the scene they found a truck driver who was counting his lucky stars he was still alive.

He had been driving along the road when he ran over a large limestone boulder which had come down from the hillside onto the road.

The boulder got stuck under the truck meaning the driver couldn’t control the steering.

The large vehicle, carrying cars, then skidded across the road, narrowly missing an oncoming car, and across the grass 60 metres before crashing into a building.

Luckily, the driver managed to avoid being hit by the debris which came through the driver's window.

The driver received minor injuries.

Time to buy a Lotto ticket perhaps!
