Man arrested and charged in relation to Waihola incident

1 min read

Dunedin Police have arrested a 33-year old man in relation to an incident at a public toilet in Waihola last week.

The incident occurred about 6.10pm on Friday 20 April.

The man has been charged with sexual violation and is due to appear in Dunedin District Court tomorrow (Tuesday 24 April).

“We are extremely grateful for the help of numerous people in the Waihola township, which has greatly assisted in locating and charging this person so quickly,” Dunedin CIB Detective Sergeant Dave Nelson says.

“The man was not known to the victim — this type of offending is very rare so to identify and charge someone will be of great comfort to the community.

“Police would still like to hear from anyone else who may have been in the vicinity of the public toilets between 5pm and 7pm on Friday, and who may have seen a light-coloured van or anything out of the norm.”

Detective Sergeant Nelson can be reached at Dunedin Police on 03 471 4800, or information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
