Man dies in logging incident

A man aged in his 70s has died this morning after being struck by a log during a logging operation in the Te Wera Forest, east of Stratford.

Police were notified by Ambulance at approximately 8:15am about the incident, and while attempts were made to resuscitate the man, he died at scene.

Stratford Police and WorkSafe New Zealand investigations into the cause of the incident have been launched.

The man's name will not be released until his next of kin has been advised and formal identification is completed.
