Man pulled from lake Taupo has died

1 min read

A man who was pulled unconscious from Lake Taupo yesterday afternoon has died.

The 21-year-old man was on a privately owned boat with three other people who were family and friends. At approximately 2.30pm during a swim in the lake he failed to resurface.

He was pulled from the water and the boat made a mayday call while an overseas tourist, who saw they were in need of assistance, swam to the boat and performed CPR. The boat then motored to shore to meet the ambulance. Last night the man was transferred to Waikato Hospital where he died this morning.

The man will be named once police are satisfied that his next of kin are aware.

The matter will be referred to the Coroner.
