Man shot by Police in Rotorua on 14 July has died

The man shot by Police in an incident in Rotorua on Thursday 14 July died in Waikato Hospital yesterday.

Police can confirm the man is 35 year old Rotorua man Shargin Stephens.

The death will be referred to the Coroner and a post mortem is due to be held today.

Police’s thoughts are with the family at this time.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are still asking for anyone who was in in the area of Vaughan, Marino and Te Ngae Roads on Thursday 14 July and may have witnessed the incident to please contact Rotorua Police on 07 349 9400.

Anyone with information or footage of the event is also asked to contact police to help build a more detailed picture of what has occurred.

In particular, Police would like to speak to the young men who filmed the video of the incident that has been widely circulated by media.
