Man stabbed in Wellington

1 min read

At about 4.10pm today police were called to the Pukehinau Flats after a man was found injured in the car park.  The 45-year-old was taken to Wellington Hospital by ambulance where it was established he had suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper body.  His condition is described as serious but stable, he's expected to undergo surgery later this evening.

It appears the stabbing took place at a flat inside the apartment block and the offender decamped immediately upon the victim raising the alarm.  Another 45 year-old male was located a short while later in nearby in Rolleston Street, he had suffered an apparent recent minor injury and police believe he may be linked to the Pukehinau Flats incident.  The man is currently being interviewed by detectives at Wellington Central Police Station.

A scene guard is in place overnight at the flats and a full forensic scene examination will take place tomorrow.

Police ask that anyone who witnessed the incident at the Pukehinau Flats, or who may have any information of interest, to contact Wellington Police on 04 3812000, or crime stoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
