Man still critical after Whakatane fall

A man who fell from the first floor balcony of a hotel in Whakatane last month remains in a critical but stable condition, supported by his family.

The man sustained serious injuries in the fall from the Craic Hotel balcony, in the early hours of Saturday 1 October, 2016.

“We are in contact with this man’s family who are understandably very worried about his medical condition and really want to know how this happened,” says Detective Sergeant Darren Thomas of Whakatane Police.

While three men have already been charged with assault in relation to the incident, the Police investigation is ongoing.

“We are grateful to the local community for providing valuable information that has helped us progress this investigation,” says Mr Thomas.

“The Craic Hotel was fairly busy at the time and we’re still keen to hear from anyone who may have been there, or around that area, in the early hours of Saturday 1 October."
