Man's body found in Mount Maunganui

The body of an elderly man was this morning found in shallow waters at Pilot Bay, Mount Manganui.

The discovery was made by a member of the public walking along the beach at approximately 10.40am. A police officer pulled the man’s body ashore and the area was cordoned off.

At this stage it is not believed that the death is suspicious, however a post mortem examination will be carried out as a matter of course.

The man is believed to be local and aged 81. His vehicle was located by Police at Salisbury Wharf and police would like to hear from anyone who has recently been in the Salisbury Wharf area or along that stretch of coastline, who may have information relevant to this death.

Details of the man will not be released until next of kin have been located and advised.
