Manslaughter charge in Invercargill assault

Police have now charged a 16 year-old male with manslaughter after an incident on the corner of Dee and Esk Streets on Saturday morning.

The 40 year-old male who was admitted to hospital after the assault died yesterday evening. He was Matthew Frederick Coley, of Invercargill.

As a result, the 16 year-old male was arrested and charged with manslaughter today. He has appeared before the court and has been remanded in custody to reappear on 2 May 2016.

As the matter is now before the courts, police are unable to comment further.
