Media Advisory – Launch of police related junior fiction book

11.30am, Friday 5 December 2014, Paraparaumu Beach Primary School

65 Gray Avenue, Paraparaumu Beach

Media are invited to attend the launch of a book written for junior readers by Wellington Police dog handler Senior Constable Sue Burridge.

‘The Adventures of Police Dog Zeus’ is written from the perspective of a young German Shepherd pup who sets out to achieve his dream of becoming an operational police dog.  Along the way he has to overcome some fears, learn new skills, understand the importance of teamwork – and that dreams can be achieved if you work hard enough.

This is Senior Constable Burridge’s first book and it has been published by Blue Light, with support from Jimbo’s Pet Food.

Police dog handlers are often asked to visit schools and explain their work.  The aim is to have every primary school library receiving a copy of the book.

Senior Constable Burridge grew up on a farm near Wairoa.  Her dream was to become a police dog handler.  She joined New Zealand Police in 1999 and became a police dog handler in 2005.  Currently she’s the only female police dog handler in New Zealand.

The book launch is happening in the Paraparaumu Beach School Library, 65 Gray Avenue, Paraparaumu Beach, at 11.30am on Friday, 5 December.

Taking part in the launch will be Acting Deputy Commissioner Grant Nicholls; Senior Constable Sue Burridge and colleagues from the Wellington Police dog section; Mr Brendon Crompton from Blue Light; Mr David Allan from Jimbo’s and staff and Year 6 students from Paraparaumu Beach School who were instrumental in giving feedback to early drafts of the book.

Media note:  please arrive at the school at 11.20am for an 11.30am start. Parking is available in the staff car parking area at the school.
