Media advisory: Request to respect victims and families privacy

1 min read

Sentencing of 18 year old, male, for sexual incidents in Christchurch and North Canterbury in October 2013

Police advise that the victims and their families do not want any contact from media and will not be issuing any statements to media in relation to this case.  This should not be taken as a justification to contact them directly and any approach would be viewed as both insensitive and a breach of their rights to privacy.

The victim’s have been through a horrific experience and the sentencing has been a very difficult time for them as they have had to revisit what occurred.  They have tremendous support from family and given the traumatic and sensitive nature of the offending ask that their privacy be respected.

Police will not be making any further comment on the sentencing.
