Police have located the missing swimmer safe and well today. The man went for a swim last night and was out swimming for over an hour and a half before coming back to shore and didn’t get back home until after 11:30pm last night.
He saw the helicopter last night but didn’t realise it was looking for him. He heard about the search effort this evening and contacted police.
Police are satisfied the man is the person they were looking for.
Police want to thank Surf Life Saving, Coast Guard and NZLandSAR volunteers for their assistance.
