New Plymouth Police can now name the man who died in a crash on the intersection of Egmont and Bishop Roads this morning.
He was Bruce Atkin, aged 62, a Canadian national who was residing in New Plymouth.
Traffic diversions have now been lifted and the road has been re-opened.
The Serious Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the crash. Preliminary indications suggest the car has pulled out into the path of an oncoming truck.
In due course the matter will be referred to the Coroner.
There will be no further police comment on this matter.
