New Plymouth water search – media advisory

Police Search and Rescue teams are currently searching the water off the coast of Paritutu, New Plymouth for a missing person.

At approximately 6:30am this morning two people were turned into the water when their boat flipped.

One person swam to shore to raise the alarm and a call was made to Police around 9:20am.

Since then Police staff, along with the Coastguard, local Surf Lifesavers and the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter, have been actively searching the water for the second person

The person who swam to shore has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

At this stage, Police believe the pair weren’t wearing lifejackets at the time of the accident
