Offender arrested after firearms incident

1 min read

Just after 8pm this evening Manawatu Police responded to an incident involving an armed male offender in Palmerston North.

While a lot of details have yet to be established, Police believe the man has driven to the Highbury Community Policing Centre and fired an unknown amount of shots at the centre, before driving to the Palmerston North Police Station and repeating his actions.

Thankfully no Police staff or members of the public sustained any injuries from these incidents. Staff are being supported by their colleagues.

The man has then decamped from the scene in his vehicle and the Armed Offenders Squad has located him just outside of Palmerston North and arrested him without incident.

The man has been taken into custody and a firearm has been recovered and seized by Police.

Scene examinations are currently underway and officers are speaking with witnesses.

A further update will be issued shortly with some more details.
