OPERATION KIRSTEN SENTENCING

1 min read

This mornings sentencing in the Auckland High Court of John Adams and Joel Lo brings to a conclusion a sad and tragic case. Although the focus today  is on the sentences received by Mr Adams and Mr Lo, we should not forget the impact that their actions have had on Mr Tupe’s Whanau.

Police also want to pay tribute to Tamati Tupe himself. Tamati Nau Takapari Tupe had a tough life. He was born prematurely. His mother died when he was three and his father a few years later. He also suffered the loss of his brother Maurice in a car accident and another member of his Whanau who cared for him soon after that.

After growing up in these challenging circumstances, Tamati went on to become someone who was regarded as an all round nice guy and had a promising career as a mechanic. His life and story could well have been an inspiration to us all and the fact he was killed in such a senseless and barbaric manner is a tragedy.

Police also want to thank Mr Tupe's Whanau for their assistance during the investigation and the trial process which was no doubt difficult for them.

No further statement will be made by Police regarding this matter.
