Missing shoe

Police investigating the death of Matthew Stevens are appealing for help from the public to locate his missing shoe.

Scene examinations at the Paekakariki Hill Road scene, including a sweep by the specialist search group, and forensic examination of a house in Lower Hutt haven't located the missing left brown leather shoe.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Sears says "We are now one week on and the investigation is making good progress. Both scenes require a careful and meticulous approach by investigators and ESR scientists."

"Early forensic results have been able to confirm that Oxford Street address is connected Mr Stevens' death but I can't go in to details about the connection at this time."

"Anyone who has seen a discarded shoe similar to the one pictured should leave it where it is and contact the investigation team straight away. It will be important to not touch or move it."

"We are continuing to appeal for anyone who may have seen Mr Stevens or his white Toyota Corolla vehicle between 10.00pm on Thursday 27 November and 7.30am on Friday 28 November."
Anyone with any information should contact the Operation Vintage investigation team on 04 381 2000. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
