Hawera Police want to speak to a man that was seen walking on State Highway 3 prior to a fatal collision on Saturday 2nd of August 2014 which killed Hawera woman Christine Anne Fairweather.

Detective Guy Jackson of the Taranaki CIB says: "We have received some information that a man was seen walking on the highway towards Hawera between 11-11:30pm and we want to speak to him as he may have seen something which could be vital to piecing together the moments up until Christine tragically lost her life."

The man is described as being of medium build, dark skinned with short black hair, and about 5 foot 6 in height. He was wearing dark coloured pants and a black hoodie with a white design on the front and high-top sneakers.

"I encourage this person to contact police as soon as possible and anyone else that may have seen them."

Police also want to speak to any motorists who drove down the busy highway between 11-11:45pm that evening.

"We strongly believe other vehicles have driven down this busy highway and may have come across the barriers in the middle of the road. We would be most grateful if these motorists could contact police as they could help us with our event timeline," says Detective Jackson.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jackson on (06) 215 5263. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
