Methamphetamine seized in Palmerston North

A joint operation between Police and NZ Customs has seen 1.2 kilos of methamphetamine intercepted.

Police and Customs believe the drugs with a street value of $1.2million were destined for sale in the Manawatu region.

The operation which started in January ran over three months a saw 10 parcels addressed for several Palmerston North addresses seized.

As part of the operation a search warrant was executed at a Palmerston North address on Friday 13 May where methamphetamine, a shotgun, ammunition and a large quantity of cash were found.

A 35-year-old Palmerston North female was arrested and faces multiple charges of importing methamphetamine and supplying methamphetamine.

A 33-year-old Palmerston North man was also arrested and has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine.

Both appeared in Palmerston North District Court this morning.

“We are delighted with the outcome of this investigation. The work with our partner agencies such as New Zealand Customs is not only working to take methamphetamine out of the supply but also identifying the people responsible for the trade in this destructive drug. It is driven by pure greed without a thought for the toll on our community,” said Detective Sergeant Dave Thompson.

Customs Acting Manager Investigations, Dominic Adams says this joint operation is another success for Customs and Police working together to dismantle syndicates regardless of where they operate, and preventing illicit substances causing harm in our communities.
