Police appeal for help to identify offender

1 min read

Feilding Police are appealing to the public to help identify and locate a man, who committed an aggravated burglary at a rural property in Rongotea on Tuesday 27 January, 2015.

At about 11pm on the Tuesday the man gained entry to the property and encountered a female resident. He made demands for motorbikes before he assaulted the victim, who was fortunately able to escape from him and lock herself in the bathroom, where she called Police.

During the incident the offender was heard talking to someone outside the house. After ransacking the victim's bedroom the offender left the address on foot. It is unknown at this stage if a vehicle was involved in the incident.

The offender stole a number of items including jewellery and some electronic equipment.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Anstis, officer in charge of the investigation says: "As a result of the assault the victim sustained some grazing and scratches. She is being closely supported by her family and has been offered the services of Victim Support."

Officers have now obtained a description of the offender. He is described as a male Mäori, aged mid to late 20s, with short thick straight black hair. He has the word 'Nomad' tattooed in the middle of his neck, and a spider web tattooed on the knuckles of one hand.

"The Nomad tattoo is quite distinctive and we are hoping someone has seen this man locally or knows of him. Anyone with information about the man's identity or other information that could help us with our inquiries, is encouraged to contact Police," says Detective Sergeant Anstis.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Anstis on (06) 213 9516. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
