Canterbury Police can confirm that the female jogger who was sexually assaulted by a man at around 8.15pm on 3 December 2015 has now made a formal complaint to Police.

Detective Sergeant Kylie Schaare says Police are keen to hear from anyone who can identify the man in the attached compu sketch as they may have information that can assist with this ongoing investigation.

“Police understand that this unprovoked incident occurred while the victim was jogging on her own in a horticultural area near Lincoln University.  Due to the sensitive nature of the incident certain facts will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim and to prevent her any further distress.”

Everyone has a right to be safe and feel safe.  Unfortunately this incident highlights the need for everyone to be vigilant when out exercising on their own.

Canterbury Police have a dedicated team of highly trained and experienced male and female Detectives working with victims of sexual assaults.

“Incidents such as this are of an extremely sensitive and personal nature.  The courage and bravery shown by victims of these crimes who report incidents to Police should not be underestimated.  By speaking up their actions could ultimately prevent someone else becoming a victim” explains Detective Sergeant Schaare.

In an emergency always dial 111.

If you see anyone behaving suspiciously when you’re out exercising or socialising report it straight away.

Police inquiries into this incident are continuing.

Police urge anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident or recognises the man in the compu sketch to call Christchurch Central Police Station on 03 363 7400.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
