Police appeal for witnesses to aggravated robbery

Palmerston North Police are investigating an aggravated robbery that occurred at approximately 9:10pm yesterday (Sunday 5 October, 2014) at the Double Happy takeaway shop on the corner of Main and David Streets.

Detective Steve Field of the Manawatü CIB says Police are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed two men acting suspiciously in the Main and David streets area around 9pm to contact Police.

"Two men wearing balaclavas entered the shop shortly before closing. One presented a knife at the employee before taking the cash register from the counter. Both men then ran along David Street in the direction of Cuba Street," Detective Field says.

It is unknown at this stage if a vehicle was involved. The first male is described as being of medium build, approximately 6 foot in height, and wearing dark clothing. The second is described as being of slim build, and approximately 5 foot 5 inches in height.

Both men appeared to be aged in their 20s.

The staff at the shop were left shaken from the incident and are being supported by officers.

"We are continuing with inquires and conducting an area canvas, and we encourage anyone with any information to contact Police immediately."
