Police arrest two men following Mellons Bay burglary

1 min read

Police took swift action, making arrests following a residential burglary in Mellons Bay on Thursday afternoon.

The burglary occurred on Marine Parade just before 3pm. The homeowner had arrived home, disturbing the offenders who fled in a vehicle.

Inspector Rakana Cook, Acting Area Commander for Counties Manukau East, says Police responded to the area and located the vehicle of interest in the Sommerville area.

“A unit stopped the vehicle on Somerville Road but it fled from Police. It was not pursued, but was located abandoned outside Botany Town Centre.

“Our staff conducted enquiries around the shopping centre and located a man thanks to the assistance of mall security. He was then taken into custody.”

The 45-year-old man has been charged with burglary.

Inspector Cook says a 50-year-old man was also later taken into custody and faces charges of burglary and failing to stop.

Both men are expected in the Manukau District Court today.

“Police are also following up with the victim to ensure further support is available to them,” Inspector Cook says.
