Police catch up with alleged fraudster targeting Remuera

1 min read

Police are relieved to have arrested an alleged fraudster today whose offending have been a “thorn in the side” of Remuera for the past two years.

A 49-year-old Auckland man will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow on a minimum of 54 fraud-related charges relating to credit cards stolen from cars in Remuera.

Police have been actively trying to find the man who has a warrant to arrest for failing to appear in Court on fraud charges in February, and his whereabouts were unknown. Efforts were continually made to locate him but due to his transient nature he hadn’t been found until today.

Inspector Andy King says Remuera’s Community Constable was driving down the suburb’s Benson Rd this morning and instantly recognised the man, who was walking along the road.

“The Remuera area has been suffering from a series of thefts from cars parked on roads and in driveways over the past couple of years. Items including credit cards are often stolen and then fraudulently used a short time later,” says Inspector King.

“This offending has been a thorn in the side of Remuera for some time and there will be a lot of people relieved that we have caught up with him.”
