Hamilton Police say today's arrest of an armed fugitive wanted in connection with a series of aggravated robberies was due to a combination of good investigative work and support from the public.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ross McKay of the Hamilton CIB said the 24-year-old Te Awamutu man was arrested at a Nawton address by armed Police shortly after midday.
"Throughout the course of our enquiries Police have received a large amount of support from the public. An appeal for information posted on the Hamilton Neighbourhood Support Facebook page was clicked on by more than 46,000 people and was shared by more than 475.
"When you couple that with information left with Crimestoppers then it becomes clear just how interested people out there in the community are in helping Police ensure Hamilton is a safe, family friendly place to live, work and play in."
Mr McKay said the man will appear in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow on three aggravated robbery and two theft charges while a 25-year-old man arrested yesterday appeared in the same court today on three aggravated robbery and six theft charges as well as outstanding warrants to arrest.
Further enquiries are continuing.
