Police disappointed following Mangere incident

1 min read

Police are disappointment in the behaviour of some members of our community, who became aggressive and abusive towards Police at an incident in Mangere yesterday morning (14 February 2016).

Police were called to an address in Lavinia Cresent at around 10:15am to assist ambulance with an incident where a person had allegedly been stabbed.

While Police were at the address investigating, a number of people from within the neighbourhood became aggressive towards Police and as a result three people have been arrested.

Those arrested were a 22-year-old female, a 22-year-old male and a 34-year-old female, all have been charged with:
- Assaults Police
- Resists Police
- Obstructs Police

No Police staff were injured during the incident.

Inspector Wati Chaplow of Counties Manukau Police says spitting and screaming abuse at Police in front of young children is appalling behaviour, especially as these officers were called there to try and assist in a family harm incident.

“Our job is to keep our community safe and we do not expect to be set on by members of the community for trying to do our job.”

Pacific Community Leader, Poutoa Papali'i, says communities need to take ownership of their behaviour and set good examples for our young ones.
“This type of behaviour falls back on us, the community, and it is just unacceptable that our Police should be treated like this in their line of duty."
