Police investigate homicide after injured man dies- Operation Leo

Wellington District Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading to injuries sustained by a 49 year old man in Linden, Tawa, last Saturday evening.

Police are treating the incident as Homicide after the man died in Wellington hospital, early this morning. A post mortem will be undertaken today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Grant Ferguson says "This is devastating news for the victim's family who have just lost a son, a brother and a father, heading into what should be a joyful occasion."

"There are people out there who have information that can assist Police and the family in establishing what has happened. These people are encouraged to come forward, and do the right thing by the family and the community."

A focus of the investigation is the identification and movement of people in Rossiter Street, Linden during the evening of 20 December 2014.

"We are aware there were several festive events occurring in Rossiter Street during the evening and would like to hear from everyone that attended these events as we try and piece together the exact circumstances of this tragedy.”

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in Rossiter Street, Linden, Tawa between 6.00pm and midnight on the 20th December 2014.

Police are working closely with ESR Scientists and are focusing closely on forensics as well as speaking with everyone in the neighbourhood.
