1 min read

Palmerston North Police are investigating the circumstances behind a woman being admitted to hospital in a critical condition last night (13 March, 2014).

The 49-year-old woman was transported by ambulance from her Feilding home to Palmerston North Hospital around 8:30pm.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan, officer in charge of the Manawatu CIB says Police were notified of her critical condition and are making inquiries.

"Our priority is to determine how the woman has sustained her injuries. At this stage I am not prepared to comment on the extent of her injuries except to say they are critical and unexplained," says Detective Senior Sergeant Sheridan.

"We will also be speaking to the woman's partner, family, and friends over the coming days to piece together her movements prior to her being admitted to hospital."

A scene examination is underway at the woman's Feilding property and is expected to be completed in the next 48 hours.

18 officers are currently working on the investigation as well as 2 staff from ESR.

"At this stage we are not sure what we are dealing with and we don't have a lot of details. It's likely to take some time to piece together the circumstances  however we are focused on conducting a thorough investigation and hope to have a clearer picture of how the woman has sustained her injuries from our inquiries," says Detective Senior Sergeant Sheridan.

Further updates will be made once more information becomes available.
