Canterbury Police investigating an incident in Dallington at the weekend are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

At approximately 9.45pm on Saturday 1 November Police were alerted to a disorder incident, in the Dallington area of Christchurch, involving two groups of men and multiple weapons.

Detective Sergeant Chris Power explains “It appears that two groups of men have used weapons in the form of pot plants, a spade, a baseball bat and a pole that is thought to have been removed from a street sign.  Three people were injured and two of them were taken to hospital including a bystander who received a significant head injury from a pole striking him on the back of the head after he tried to intervene.”

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Three men aged 17, 20 and 22 years old are due to appear in Christchurch District Court on Thursday 6 November 2014 facing a variety of charges including Assault With A Weapon.

Police are keen to speak to a fourth man described as Maori/Polynesian, 17-18 years of age, thin build and estimated to be 185cm tall or taller.

Two men were taken to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance following the incident.  One man was treated for an 11cm laceration to his head and significant cuts and bruises to his body.  The other was knocked out and treated for a minor head wound and laceration.  They were both discharged from hospital on Sunday morning.  A third man is reported to have received multiple bruises to his back and body.

The Dallington neighbourhood have been working hard to minimise crime in the area and Police are working with the community and the two groups to resolve the issues that led to this disagreement.

Police ask the fourth man or anyone who may be able to identify him or witnessed the incident to contact them by calling 03 363 7400 and selecting option 5.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
