Police make prompt arrest following burglary, Mount Eden

A man has been taken into custody following a report of a burglary in Mount Eden on Monday morning.

Around 12.40am, Police responded to reports of the break in at a commercial address on Dominion Road.

Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Wayne Kitcher, says Police units were quickly on the scene.

“It was reported the person involved had taken a number of items from the premises before leaving the area on foot.

“With the assistance of the Police Dog Unit, Delta, the man was located a short time later at an address on New North Road.

“The 56-year-old was taken into custody without incident.”

Further action, including charges, are currently being considered.

Inspector Kitcher says enquiries remain ongoing into the burglary.

“I would like to acknowledge the informant who reported a disturbance inside the store, allowing us to quickly get on scene.

“It takes everyone working together to keep our communities safe, and I encourage everyone who sees something suspicious taking place to report it to us as soon as possible.”
