Police patrolling in Papakura have brought an incident at a local café to a safe conclusion this morning.
Counties Manukau South Area Commander, Inspector Joe Hunter, says there is no ongoing risk to the public as a result of the incident.
Police received a call from a concerned member of the public regarding a woman who picked up a knife at a café on Great South Road.
“At around 9.45am Police were notified of a disorder in which a woman entered the premises and allegedly threatened customers and staff within the store.
“It appears the female has uplifted a kitchen knife and brandished it within the store, leaving a short time later and walking out onto Great South Road.
“Police were called immediately and staff from the Papakura Community Team, who were already patrolling on foot in the area, and our Public Safety Team were quickly on scene – taking the female into custody without issue.”
Inspector Hunter says thankfully no one was injured and Police were working to provide support to people present at the time.
“We understand incidents like this can be very confronting for those present, however, there is no ongoing risk to the public.
“This incident received a swift response from Police and we want to reassure the community that we take these types of events seriously.”
He says charges are being considered.
