Police pursuit in Dunedin

Police engaged in a pursuit in Dunedin at around 7pm tonight when a fleeing driver failed to stop.

The pursuit was 2km long and started near Caversham before ending 20 metres north of the Abbotsford off ramp, when the speeding car crashed.

One person was taken to hospital for a check over and has now been arrested.

One southbound lane will be closed until later tonight as the Serious Crash Unit investigates.

As per the standard process, the incident will now be referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority.

There will be no further comment while this matter is under investigation.
