Stolen tractor returned to it's owner

On Friday night (15 January 2016) a John Deer tractor valued at $72,000 was stolen from Gordon Handy Machinery in Washdyke Timaru.

Constable Matthew Blakemore says a number of people contacted Police with information after an appeal over the weekend. "Police followed up on a number of nominations but did not locate the tractor."

"A keen eyed community minded farmer and members of the public contacted Police today after they saw an abandoned tractor in the Orari riverbed just east of the State Highway one road bridge today."

After confirming the tractor was the one stolen Police reunited it with its rightful owner this afternoon.

Gordon Handy (pictured) said he would like to thank Police and members of the public who helped locate his tractor and appreciates the hard work which led to it being recovered today.

Police have not located the person responsible and appeal for anyone who saw the tractor in the Orari river area between Geraldine and State Highway one to contact Timaru Police Station on 03 687 9808.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
