Police respond to possible body in Rotorua hot pool

1 min read

Police and fire are working to recover what is believed to be a body in one of the hot pools in Kuirau Park Rotorua.

A member of the public contacted police at approximately 1.20pm this afternoon (Tuesday, 13 October). The area has been cordoned off and police, including search and rescue staff, are liaising with Fire and Rotorua Lakes Council to formulate a recovery plan.

Rotorua Area Commander, Inspector Bruce Horne, said: “We are yet to confirm that there is a body in the pool but we are working on that assumption. Due to the extreme temperature of the pool recovery will be very difficult and dangerous. Safety of all personnel involved is a priority and needs careful planning so we anticipate recovery will take a few hours.”

Further updates will be provided as and when they are available.
