Police responded to armed incident

Hawke’s Bay Police responded to a serious armed incident in the region late last night.

 

Officers including the Armed Offenders Squad were called out about 9pm and road blocks set up after a report that a person had died at a property in Napier.  A man alleged to have been involved in the incident had left the property carrying a firearm and travelled out of the city.

 

A Napier property has been cordoned off after officers discovered the body of a woman.

 

Police including the Armed Offenders Squad set up extensive road blocks in the Hastings and Clive area.   A man believed to be linked to the Napier scene has been apprehended by police in Clive at 11.10pm.

 

Superintendent Sandra Venables, Eastern District Commander, said this was a fast moving incident and the details are still unfolding. Information at this time indicates the man has been shot and he is currently being treated at Hawke’s Bay Hospital.

 

Further information will be released when details become available in the morning, however there is no further risk to public safety, Superintendent Venables said.
