Today Horowhenua Police arrested a 23-year-old man who was wanted for a serious assault in Palmerston North more than a year ago.

Following an appeal on Police Ten 7 on 30 August this year, information given to Police by members of the public has resulted in us being able to locate the man.

The man will appear in Levin District Court on Thursday 4 October charged with injuring with reckless disregard.

The victim had been walking with a group of friends on Main Street on 12 August last year when he was punched in the head and fell to the ground.

He was in hospital for several days with a serious head injury.

Detective Constable Mike Skates says: "The arrest is thanks to Police Ten 7 and the public who helped provide investigators with the information they needed to solve this crime.

"We are very lucky we have such a good viewer base of New Zealanders who do their bit to help us out. We are pleased we’ve been able to solve this for the victim."
