Press conference regarding pursuit across Greater Auckland

1 min read

A press conference will be held at 1.30pm about last night's pursuit and hostage situation.

Inspector Hayden Mander will brief media. The events of last night occurred over several hours and involved numerous Police districts and staff. We will attempt to provide as much information as possible, however there are aspects which are still to be established.

The 27 year-old man who was the subject of last night's incident is with Police on his way to be interviewed at the North Shore Policing Centre. Upon his arrest, he advised the officers that he had swallowed 3grams of methamphetamine, so Police then took him to Middlemore Hospital for assessment.

It is not yet known where or when he will appear in court and this information will be confirmed later.

We can confirm that the 64 year-old man who was taken hostage is unharmed, but shaken.

No further information is able to be released before the press conference, which will be at the North Shore Policing Centre. Please be in the public counter reception at 1.25pm.

Parking is limited at the station.

Media: please do not attempt to phone Inspector Mander before the press conference.
