PRESS RELEASE

18th April 2016

Overnight on Wednesday 13th April 2016 the Tarawera Court Mall in Kawerau was the subject of a burglary in which a substantial amount of cash was stolen from an ATM.

A swift and thorough Police investigation into the burglary has resulted in the arrest of a 27 year old Kawerau male and a 23 year old male from Whakatane and the recovery of the stolen money. Both males have been bailed and will be appearing at the Whakatane District Court Wednesday facing burglary charges.

Police are not seeking anyone else regarding this matter.

Kawerau Police would also like to take the opportunity to thank all the Kawerau locals in the vicinity of the Cobham Drive area who assisted in searching for the 3 year old who was reported missing from his home address on Sunday.

As soon as they heard about the missing child, residents began searching on foot, on quad bike and in vehicles. Due to their swift efforts the missing child was located 20 minutes later about 1.5 kilometres away from home on his tricycle. He was returned home to his grateful mother.

It is incidents like these that reinforce the importance of the great community spirit we enjoy in Kawerau with friends, neighbours and strangers all willing to assist in times of need.
