Search for missing police dog continues ahead of weather change

1 min read

Search teams are back in the Mt Holdsworth area this morning in a bid to find missing police dog Thames ahead of a predicted bad weather forecast change.

Senior Sergeant Mark Davidson, head of the Wellington Police Dog section, said 12 people including dog handlers and trained search volunteers are probing deeper gullies and gnarly bush terrain.  This includes the Totara Creek and Red Creek area.

“Thames is a fit and resourceful dog but we’re all naturally concerned that there’s been no sign of him.  Our dogs and officers work as a team so everyone wants to find him including his handler who is part of today’s search.”

Recent good weather is forecast to change in the area tonight.

Media note:  A planned stand-up media opportunity at Masterton Police Station this morning now won’t go ahead as the search teams are in the field trying to get as much ground covered in the search area before the weather changes.
