Search under way for American tourist

1 min read

A search and rescue team is this morning entering the Heaphy Track from the Golden Bay end to see if they can find any trace of American Tourist Bob Kuhmann.

An accommodation provider in Karamea raised concerns for Mr Kuhmann when he failed to arrived for a booking on 13 April when he had planned to have completed the Heaphy Track.

Inquiries so far have revealed Mr Kuhmann had not stayed at any of the huts on the Heaphy Track towards the Karamea end.

Constable Malcolm York of Nelson Bays Police said today the searchers would cover off two remaining huts to see if Mr Kuhmann had been there and meanwhile a range of inquiries were being made to try and establish his movements. He said some useful information had come in from the public overnight following a public appeal yesterday evening for information.

Police are asking anyone who has been in contact with Mr Kuhmann, or has information as to his whereabouts to please contact the Greymouth Police, Ph 03 768 1600, or Nelson Police Ph 03 546 3840.
